I taught elementary and middle school for 10 years and 13 years at the community college as an adjunct professor in the math department. Recently I have been tutoring at BIGS in northwestern Michigan. I love it. I have been tutoring predominantly upper elementary and middle school aged children for the last two years. I taught elementary and middle school for 10 years and 13 years at the community college as an adjunct professor in the math department. Recently I have been tutoring at BIGS in northwestern Michigan. I love it. I have been tutoring predominantly upper elementary and middle school aged children for the last two years. Each one of my students entered tutoring with many failing grades; after a short period of time they successfully completed all of their failing courses with A's and B's.

The students that I tutor seem to be the students that are frustrated academically and losing confidence in their abilities. We immediately set small goals, achieve those goals and continue to move forward conquering past, present and future material. I enjoy working with students of all ages. The best part of tutoring is observing a student conquer the material and leave feeling great about themselves!

I taught middle school math for ten years. The subjects included pre-Algebra and Algebra. I also taught at a local community college for 13 years in the math department where I taught both college pre-Algebra and Algebra. 23 years teaching math has prepared me well for tutoring.

Please feel free to contact me with any of your tutoring needs. I enjoy a challenge and believe we can help change the status of your situation. With my skills and your hard work we can conquer those classes that are frustrating you and make a change in your academic life!

ESL/ESOL

I am currently working with a student who is from Bulgaria but now living in the United States. I am working on his English language, reading fluency, comprehension and spelling. I am utilizing phonics, fun activities, tandem writing and reading as well as games to emphasize the English language. We are having a blast and making great progress. I am a patient person who offers a ton of praise. I divide each session into thirds (we can discuss this further) and that seems to work amazingly. Working remotely is a fantastic way to get the job done. The structure that I offer and the speaking opportunities that I provide are quite beneficial. I tell my ESL students that they need to even think in English. I enjoy writing simple emails to my students daily so that we can converse on a regular basis, (Sometimes we converse in writing and other times we record videos). I am even hoping to utilize peer teaching with students from various non-english speaking locations...that is on my bucket list!

My current tutor load includes fourth graders learning math, reading and spelling, a fifth grade ESL students working on his English as a second language but also working on his reading fluency and comprehension. I am a retired teacher with 23 years of teaching experience. I have enjoyed teaching both upper elementary and middle school. I have also taught at the college level. Most recently I have decided to tutor both virtually and face2face. Teaching reading has been one of the highlights of my tutoring experiences. I currently tutor an ESL student in reading and spelling and found that the techniques I utilize for this student is also an excellent program for all readers hoping to increase their reading fluency and comprehension. I make reading fun, interactive and easy to follow. Most of my experience with reading is at the upper elementary level but I would have no problem creating a program for the primary grades. I also taught reading in the middle school as a part of my language arts program. I strongly believe we must set small goals as well as long-term goals and build confidence. Perfect practice makes perfect. I've used that saying over and over...
