My name is Jeri and I have 6+ years of teaching experience. I have taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade, as well as reading intervention for grades 1-6. I received my Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Wayne State University and Master's degree in literacy education from Madonna University.
Teaching is something that I love, so I try to make learning just as enjoyable for my students. After I determine your child's math or reading level, I will gather the appropriate materials to work with them at their level. Additionally, I will incorporate games and lots of hands-on-activities in my lessons whenever possible to keep your child interested and focused. I look forward to working with you! Hello!

Jeri tutors both of my kids, Miranda 7 and Michael 6. She was wonderful with the kids, they listened to her and she kept things interesting and fun. Both kids just love her. Miranda's math and reading have greatly improved and Michael is learning his sight words.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been working towards an elementary education degree for the past four years. Through my educational experience I have had classes from all areas of elementary education, including science, math, social studies, reading, and language arts.
In addition to my coursework I have over two years of experience in the elementary classroom. This experience includes student teaching (1st and 2nd grade), substitute teaching (K-6), observations, tutoring, and volunteer work in various classrooms.
I feel highly qualified to provide an exceptional education to all elementary age students!
I have spent the entire school year (2007-2008) working with 1st and 2nd graders. A main focus in both classrooms I worked in was phonics. I am familiar with various phonics programs and have implemented these programs in the classroom. Phonics is an essential component of reading and I feel it is a necessity for success. I have been successfully planning and teaching phonics lessons in my current student teaching placement for over two months now.
Reading is my area of specialty! I have a great deal of training in teaching struggling readers. I worked for three years as a reading intervention teacher, and also taught small reading groups in my classroom. Additionally, I am only two classes away from completing my Master's degree in literacy education, which has added to my knowledge of helping struggling readers.
