**Math is fun to me. You can ask me any math question and I will help find the answer. My favorite subject is **Earth Science and geology so please think of me for that. I avoid biology but have tutored lots of nurses in **chemistry before they applied to their nursing program. ** Physics is almost like math so I enjoy it, too.
I have specialized training in the Orton-Gillingham method of teaching **reading to dyslexic readers and have many resources for lessons. It was the highlight of my career when a student was at 7th grade level in the 6th grade and didn't need tutoring any more.
Taking tests is something I can do so well that I score smarter than I am. I recently worked for the Census Bureau which selects census takers on the basis of test results on one exam. I can share this test taking skill with you.
I lived for a year and a half in Italy and spoke **Italian every day so let me know if you would like coaching in pronouncing it for any opera singing you do.
**Flute players can watch the local Wind Symphony for free at the local concerts three times a year and see me up front in the flute section. **Math is fun to me. You can ask me any math question and I will help find the answer. My favorite subject is **Earth Science and geology so please think of me for that. We have only had three sessions so far, but I am very pleased. Julie had been easy to get in touch with, and very flexible in scheduling appointments. I think it will take some time to see a difference in my daughters math grade, but I can already see a difference in her confidence level. I really trust my daughters judgement (especially since I am clueless when it comes to her pre-cal) and she seems very pleased after each lesson.
My tutor is Julie I really enjoy her and she is so smart. She is helping me study for the ASVAB which is a test for entry into the Military. I am learning alot from her and am very happy with her. Thank you.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took a course of eight lessons for teachers in the Orton-Gillingham method of teaching reading. This method has worked successfully with dyslexic readers. I took a seminar for 30 hours given by Susan Barton on the subject of evaluating students to qualify them as dyslexic and suggest ways to help.
I regularly play flute in the local Wind Symphony which has all the brass, woodwind, and percussion sections. The flute section varies in size from six to eight players depending on which concert season it is. I played in college at Michigan State University in the concert band for three years and took private lessons there. The music I play is somewhat challenging but not professional level. I sat first chair in high school when our band competed at a national contest at Virginia Beach and received a first place rating. I have never learned to play piccolo.
I was trained in a two day seminar given by the Literacy Council in the Laubach method of reading and took a six-week course at the Kalamazoo Institute in the Orton-Gillingham method of teaching reading. Both are phonics based. I have successfully taught an elementary age student who has dyslexia to read at the sixth grade level using the techniques in the Orton-Gillingham method.
