About Rosemary

I am highly qualified (English, Health, and a MAT in Special Education) and I currently teach English Language Arts at a local high school. I specialize in reading comprehension/fluency, writing, critical thinking, organizational and study skills, homework assistance, and ACT/SAT prep. I have taught for 5 years with all grade levels of English. I have also taught health and study skills courses. I have a caseload of students so I am very familiar with other subject areas as I consult and tutor them on various other subjects. I have also consulted parents on IEPs.

I have tutored students in several Oakland County schools and curriculums. Districts in which students I have tutored: Novi, Northville, Walled Lake, Huron Valley, and South Lyon. I have access to these curriculums and follow a checklist to ensure each learning target is hit.

My philosophy is simple--reading and writing are essential skills for any field and I enjoy finding specific strategies for each individual student to strengthen those skills. I also think peaking student interest is key. The curriculum I teach is heavily based on strengthening reading and writing skills, critical thinking, and involves a strong use of technology to support best practices within the classroom for each individual learner. I have a strong knowledge of technology and I have used several tools that help students along with organization skills and test prep. Your student will feel comfortable and enjoy practicing and learning new skills. Lessons are hands on, broken down into lessons on improving skills, and are always catered to their interests to keep them engaged.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I teach ELA at the high school level. I have proctored the ACT. The curriculum I teach reflects the English portion of the ACT.

ACT Reading

ACT proctoring and I teach ELA at the high school level that is based heavily on the format of the ACT.

ADHD

I have an endorsement in Learning Disabilities and much of my course work included students with ADD/ADHD and strategies for them to be successful in the classroom. I am also a resource room teacher/caseload teacher for students that have medical diagnoses of ADD/ADHD that receive special education services. I am familiar with accommodations and modifications in IEPs and 504 plans for students with ADD/ADHD. My learning disabilities endorsement covers this population.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

As a high school resource room teacher, I have several students in my classroom that have Autism or Aspergers. I am familiar with the social needs of students with Autism and the modifications made to their learning environments and how it can impact their learning.
