Hola! Bonjour! I love teaching Spanish and French! I have been a teacher/tutor for 20 years. I've taught all ages, from pre-school to senior citizens. I have also traveled to Spain, Mexico, and Central America and I enjoy sharing the information and experiences with my students.
I use a variety of teaching techniques to meet the needs of diverse learners. For beginning students, I begin with TPR (Total Physical Response),in which the student learns the target language (Spanish or French) much like they learned their primary language: by responding to commands. "Stand up", "Sit down", "Touch your nose", "Point to the computer" are some examples. I also use TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling). In this approach, the teacher tells basic stories, pointing to words and definitions on a chart. The student answers basic questions as the story progresses. Students quickly learn to ask and answer questions as well as master basic and then advanced vocabulary and structure with this approach. In addition, I use music, games, graphic organizers, and conversations, depending on the age and interests of the student.
Getting to know the student and his/her interests and needs is key to a successful tutoring experience. My goal is to tailor the sessions to the student so that s/he learns the language and enjoys him/herself. Hola! Bonjour! I love teaching Spanish and French! I have been a teacher/tutor for 20 years. I couldn't have found a better tutor. She had many helpful tricks. Made personalized quizzes for me. I found our time to be very useful. Extremely knowledgeable and a great teacher. I highly recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my M.A. in Romance Languages from Olivet Nazarene University. I received my B.A. in Spanish Language and Culture from Wayne State University.
