My goal as an educator is to encourage students to become independent learners and to discover a love of learning. I believe that every child has the ability and potential to learn and be successful. I am dedicated to each of my students and passionate about what I do. I will work to help students navigate their own courses and help them build a strong bridge between prior knowledge and that which is yet to come.
I plan to enable students to see learning as an adventure by developing strategies for individual students to use so that they can succeed. Each student is an individual and I will guide them through the process of developing their own learning style, so they can experience their own adventure in learning and become self-motivated learners.
I specialize in tutoring elementary and middle school students. I have 8 years of teaching experience in elementary education. I have experience tutoring students of all ages Pre-K to adults in reading comprehension, phonics, and writing. I have worked closely with students of all ages on improving their decoding skills to help them become more independent readers. I have a Masters degree in Reading. I have also tutored and taught students who struggle with math topics such as fractions, multiplication, division, subtraction, addition, and geometry.
I teach all subjects at an elementary school in Michigan. I have taught fifth grade, third grade, first grade, and kindergarten.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm a certified teacher, and I have 8 years of teaching experience with students with ADD and ADHD. I have worked with students both on and off medication. I understand the needs of students with ADD and ADHD and have developed successful for them. I use a variety of strategies to keep students engaged in learning such as using movement to increase learning and giving students movement or sensory breaks.
I have taught elementary school for the past four years using the common core standards. I have participated in professional developing in regards to these standards. I have experience developing lessons based on the common core standards. I have also prepared students to take assessments based on the common core standards.
I have 6 years teaching experience as a full time, certified general education teacher for high needs elementary students. I taught fifth and third grade at Alcy Elementary School in Memphis, TN. I am currently teaching first grade in Kalamazoo, MI. I taught kindergarten for one year and this is my third year teaching first grade.
I have used Handwriting Without Tears in my classroom for four years to help students with their handwriting. I have also developed my own handwriting practice for students that struggle with handwriting. I also have some experience working with students that have low fine motor development on improving their handwriting.
I have four years experience teaching phonics in my general education classrooms for both kindergarten and first grade students. I also tutored students of all ages for three years on basic and advanced phonics to improve their reading. I am certified and I have worked with students with learning disabilities, students in special education, and students with ADHD.
