My name is John, and I have always felt that tutoring should be tailored to each individual. Each person learns in a different way some are more visual learners than others. Some students need more intensive sessions than others. I am a writer for Suite101.com (a non fiction site), and I also write fiction(children's stories and science fiction/fantasy). Over the years I have been an editor for a college magazine (unpaid position), and have had numerous English courses in literature and creative writing. In my major, English, I earned a 3.28 GPA over my college career.
While I was at Wayne State University, I was also a member of their debate team for a year. So if public speaking is a problem for the perspective student, I am very familiar with how to present a speech and a framework for it. I know how to do the research to back up what the student is saying and to prepare them for any questions that might be asked of them. A person that struggles speaking in public will have confidence to do so after the end of our tutoring sessions.
Above everything else, I enjoy tutoring/teaching people. I was a crew leader for the 2010 Census down in Detroit, and I had to teach the enumerators everything about their jobs. How to do it properly right down to the dress code. I had a rule that if ever there was a question, for them to ask it because there is nothing as a stupid question with me. The only bad question is one that is not asked.
