Hello! My name is Margaret but most of my students call me Miss Maggie. I have been a substitute teacher since 1995, and a tutor and instructor since 2006. I also raised 3 kids and have 4 grandchildren who I tutor in reading and English. I love teaching all students, especially international students. Hello! My name is Margaret but most of my students call me Miss Maggie. I have been a substitute teacher since 1995, and a tutor and instructor since 2006. I also raised 3 kids and have 4 grandchildren who I tutor in reading and English. I love teaching all students, especially international students. I lived and taught in the Middle East in a small country called Qatar for 4 years (2008-2012) and most recently in the English Language Institute at Central Michigan University. This summer I had a liver transplant and can't work in the classroom for awhile, so now that I am feeling better, I hope to find some students who need me online.
What I find most rewarding about teaching/tutoring is helping students improve themselves and grades in their subjects, as well as succeeding as a student and an individual overall. I require students to think critically about assignments and to take responsibility for their learning. I like to be creative in lesson planning so students can be creative and show me how they can shine! I also learn as much about the world, its cultures and languages from my students as they learn from me. I hope to be able to teach until I die because I never want to stop learning myself!

I especially love to teach reading and writing, but have taught all skills and levels including grammar, listening, speaking and vocabulary. I provide constructive feedback for students' writing and oral presentations. I have worked with international students from the time I was in high school (with exchange students, migrant workers and immigrants), as an exchange student/host family, as a substitute teacher and most recently (in the last 10 years), directly with international college students of all cultures and languages. I hold a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL).

I generally create worksheets using activities that include word webs, matching exercises, sentence creation and short answer questions that show me a student is able to use the word correctly. Students have reported that the worksheets are very helpful in learning vocabulary because the activities are varied and different.
