Southwestern Michigan College (Early Childhood Educ)
I come from a large family that has always had numerous children at every age level, whether it was children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews. Being around lots children during my childhood, I came to love the curious and energetic way that children learn. I was a top notch learner myself and often helped other students both at the elementary and high school levels.
I have a degree in Early Childhood Education and worked as a nanny and childcare provider for over 20 years professionally, and with children's groups at schools, museums, and churches for over 27 years. I currently a volunteer tutor for a student at a local school one day each week. This is my 5th year of tutoring with the school. I enjoy and marvel at the different ways that children learn and am very quick to move to another style of teaching if necessary. As a life-long learner, I want to pass that joy onto this next generation of children by making learning fun and building good study habits.
I am great at teaching reading, math, history, and some science to children aged 2-12 years of age. I am available after 4:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. I am available some weekend. I find that tutoring in a child's own home with parents present is the most relaxing environment for children. I can travel up to 30 minutes from my home to meet with you and your family.
If you are interested in a tutor to help your child succeed, please give me a call. Hello,

I must say that Susan has been doing a great job with my daughter, When Susan first started working with my daughter, my daughters confidence level was extremely low. My daughter was so afraid of failing to the point where she would do a lot of guessing and still end up failing anyway. I couldn't figure out what steps to take in order to get her on the right path, Susan has been a life saver, not only has my daughter gained a tremendous amount of confidence, she is doing a lot better in school. I really appreciate all that Susan has done to help my daughter. I can't thank her enough.
Thank you so much for the compliment. I love to see Ireland doing as well as she is. Her confidence has changed so much since our first lessons. Before we know it, she will enjoy reading.
Susan is working with my 4th grader of several subjects... Her reading has improved, and her math grade has gone up an entire letter grade
Susan's attitude, friendliness and flexibility is helpful in the beginning, when boys would love to do anything better than studying math in the summertime.
Hailey loves spending time with Susan and is so excited to visit with her and learn math and reading skills.
Thanks so much for the note. I enjoy my time with Hailey and am learning lots from her also. She is making great progress especially with math and money.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
