I am bilingual. I grew up abroad learning English and Spanish equally. I studied pre-medicine for four years. I have two masters one in Linguistics and one in Special Education. I have always been fascinated with human dynamics and the learning aspects of it all. I enjoy tailoring the lesson to the needs of the individual. I see the potential of that person. I feel we have obstacles to overcome, not problems. I was fortunate to work with DELPI, which gave me the opportunity to work with executives from all over the world. Thus increasing my knowledge of their culture and etiquette. In doing so I was able to recognize and work with all different type of learners. I truly enjoyed being a spelling Bee judge. There is so much of our English language that is not being used. I like learning the different words and accents here in the US according to where we may grown up and what generation.
I know that in order for someone to learn we must teach, teach and teach. I am very patient and we as teachers can learn from all our students and fellow co-workers. We learn from everyone. I like to meet the students first to make get a feel for each other and make it a good fit. I myself am ADHD and it has taken me quite some time to master managing my time and including plenty of structure to my daily routine. We all have something positive to bring to the table, we need to develop it and empower our student and our parents.
I have tutored for over twenty plus years. I graduated in another country (Mexico). I have two masters and I continually am learning new things and new ways to better myself as an instructor and a listener. So the needs of the student can be met. While in Pre-medicine I was able to translate many books. Which gave me a passion for reading and discovering that there is so much out their to learn.
I graduated in Mexico, I love languages. I have twenty plus years teaching English and Spanish as a second language. I seem to find mnemonic patterns and associations to aide the students in remembering. I myself had a difficult time learning Spanish and Latin. Therefore, what I have learned throughout the years I teach to my students.
My degree is in Special Education. I have had the opportunity to work with individuals with down syndrome, slow motor skills, Asperger's and autism. I enjoy working and learning from all the students. I have been a volunteer in my hometown to teach the children with disabilities and work with the parents with the ISP"S. Giving the parents a better understanding and empowering them to advocate for their children.
I welcome the opportunity to work with all walks of life, all ages and students. Whether you are a new student or you have been away from school. There are many ways to get back and accomplish your goals. I am very focused on time management. As an instructor I like to work on working smarter not harder. Yet doing some right brain left brain exercises to help increase your retention of the subject matter. I worked for the School district for the after school program. As I was teaching 8th graders, the class was Spanish. As I began teaching I noticed that they did not know the 8 parts of speech. I asked permission from my supervisor to teach them the 8 parts of speech in English so they can master the subject. Once done. I received so many compliments from the teacher due to the children's grades in English, Reading and history had improved. If you know proper English then you will speak proper English. so if you want to learn a different language the same principal applies. I teach in a manner that I will not move on until you have mastered the subject. I am bilingual. I grew up abroad learning English and Spanish equally. I studied pre-medicine for four years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I graduated with a masters in special Education with specialty in ADD/ADHD. All individuals' learn at a different rate and we are all different types of learners.
I have worked with children with disabilities and special needs for the past twenty years. Every child deserves the best opportunity to develop their potential. I tend to see the potential in all students. I have been a Spelling Bee Judge in the past. It was a great opportunity, I get to learn from every child. I have donated my time teaching Sunday school for twenty years now. I have taught all ages and have mentored them as well. I am also bilingual. I find that the child needs to master the 8 parts of speech to have a better understanding of the subject matter.
