About Crystal

I am looking to provide individualized help to students who are struggling with concepts in school. I hold a Bachelor’s of Science with a Major in Psychology and a Masters in Special Education. Teaching is a passion for me as I have a true love for helping students reach their educational success. I taught for 5 years as a special education teacher in grades Kindergarten through Fourth grade and have tutored many students along the way.

I am looking for students who would like to set up a regular tutoring schedule. However, I am open to tutoring a student only when help is necessary. I am willing to meet at the local library as well as tutoring online, whichever is best for the student’s individual needs. I can provide extra practice problems and tools to support a student’s independence. I would love the opportunity to help a child who is struggling or who just needs some extra guided practice. I am looking forward to making a difference!

I have 5 years of experience teaching struggling readers in grades K-4, as well as running reading intervention groups for multiple grade levels. Reading intervention programs I have used include; Phonics for Reading, PALS, Quick Reads, Rewards, Reading Recs, and Touch Phonics. I am also trained in DIBELS Next and AIMSweb as a method of tracking progress.

I have had multiple trainings about the common core state standards, as well as having resources to support common core state standards within the elementary curriculum.

I am a special education teacher and I am highly qualified in elementary education. I have 5 years of experience teaching and tutoring in the elementary setting.

Please contact me with any questions regarding my qualifications, to learn more about me, or to schedule a lesson. I would love to speak with you and help you reach your educational success.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked with many different students who have ADHD. I am able to teach while still meeting the behavioral and academic needs of my student who have ADD/ADHD. This includes developing and maintaining behavior plans for the school and home environment. If the students needs them, I also incorporate the use of different movement activities that can be done while seated as well as opportunities for brain breaks.

Common Core

I have had multiple trainings through the Michigan Public School System about the Common Core state standards, as well as having resources to support Common Core state standards within the elementary curriculum. I am a special education teacher and I am highly qualified in elementary education.

Elementary Math

I have worked with many students to build basic skills in math as well as teaching them strategies to complete multi-step problems.

Phonics

I have five years of experience teaching struggling students in all subject areas grades K-4, as well as running reading and phonics intervention groups for multiple grade levels. Reading intervention programs I have used include Phonics for Reading, PALS, Quick Reads, Rewards, Reading Recs, and Touch Phonics. I am also trained in DIBELS Next and AIMSweb as a method of tracking student progress.

Reading

Inspiring students to read is one of the many things I love about teaching. I have experience using many different types of reading intervention programs to help students reach grade level reading expectations as well as gain personal confidence.

Special Needs

I hold a Bachelor’s of Science with a Major in Psychology and a Masters in Special Education. I have 11 years of experience working with students who have special needs. I was a special education teacher for five of those years.
