About Kelly

I recently moved to Royal Oak, MI after teaching in intercity Indianapolis for three years with Teach for America. I am certified to teach both general education and special education in grades pre K to 6th grade. I am familiar with multisensory teaching methods and research based practices. In college I also worked as an autism associate within a clinic setting and became skilled in Applied Behavior Analysis techniques.

I pride myself in being a caring, compassionate, and altruistic educator. I find that building relationships with students, and their families, positively impacts the learning environment. By combining these relationships, with data driven instruction, I believe I am able to enhance each student's unique set of abilities. In order to influence progress, I keep detailed notes during each session and provide students and parents with regular progress reports. There is no greater reward as a teacher and tutor than to see students gain confidence and independence in their social and educational lives. This is the type of achievement I aim to produce with all of my students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

I hold a current teaching license in Special Education (K-6). Not only have I taught many children with autism during the last three years as a teacher, but I have also worked with them in a clinic as an autism associate. During my time as an autism associate I was trained by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in Applied Behavior Analysis techniques seen frequently used with children with autism. I have worked with low and high functioning students with both academic and life skills goals.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a current teaching license for the state of Indiana in Elementary Education (K-6) and Special Education (K-6). I also completed a masters in the art of teaching (MAT) from Marian University in 2015. I taught grades 2nd (general education), 4th (special ed), and Kindergarten (special ed) while teaching in Indianapolis from 2013-2016.

Special Needs

I have a current teaching license for the state of Indiana in Elementary Education for General Education (K-6) and Special Education (K-6). I also hold a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from Marian University in 2015. During my years as a teacher, I taught Special Education in grades Kindergarten and fourth.
