In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. I have over 15 years combined as a Spanish language teacher, tutor and practitioner. I taught middle school and high school Spanish in Oakland County and have tutored homeschoolers, high schoolers and college students in lower level courses. I received my BA in Spanish from The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and my MA in Guidance Counseling and Mental Health Counseling from Wayne State University. I have worked full-time as a Licensed Professional Counselor for the last 5 years in Spanish-dominant work environments, such as public schools and clinics in Detroit's Mexican Town. My counseling degree has allowed me to provide comprehensive tutoring and coaching to learners with ADHD. My biggest teaching responsibility is to reinforce the learning of my bilingual daughter and being an active parent at her language immersion school.
