About Laura

I am a longtime journalist turned freelance writer/editor for major publications and corporations. The first part of my career was spent chasing ambulances and other great stories for a newspaper in Southern California. I left the business after my son was diagnosed with cancer. In elementary school, he had some learning issues, especially in reading. Testing determined that he has dyslexia. His determination to learn meant a lot of hours every night doing homework. We listened to books on tape, discussed stories and created outlines for many projects. He developed some amazing study habits.

Last year, my son graduated from high school with a 3.5 grade average. He is finishing his first year of college. I attribute his success to his hard work and my patience and skill in teaching him how to study, listen, take notes, pay attention and do his best. As an editor, I do more than just fix copy. I help young writers understand how to conduct research, organize notes and write solid copy.

I knew I wanted to be a writer when I was in the third grade. I have been doing it for many years as a professional. I want to share what I know to help kids develop solid communication skills - both written and verbal - that will open many doors.

I believe that we all have gifts. The goal is to recognize and utilize them to our best advantage. For all that other stuff that we're so-so at, we ask for help so we can learn and improve. My goal is to help people learn how to express themselves with confidence, control and passion.
