I really enjoy helping people succeed. I know reading and writing assignments are not always easy for students, and everyone needs help at some point in their studies. Sometimes it’s just a matter of adding a new strategy here and there so that learning becomes more enjoyable and so students can achieve better results. I am happy to share what I know.
Whether it’s writing an essay or research paper, reading a book, studying for the ACT, or understanding an article in a newspaper, success is based on having a good vocabulary and good comprehension. I can help students at many different levels become more successful by organizing their writing, finding ways to relate to stories so they are enjoyable to read, knowing the roots of words so that larger words can be broken down, or understanding the context and facts presented in articles or paragraphs. I enjoy providing tools that help students complete assignments successfully. I enjoy sharing my love for reading and literature, too.
I recently earned my master's degree in strategic public relations from George Washington University. I have a degree in history from the University of Michigan, and I have also taken courses in news writing and media editing at Oakland University. I love writing, and it has been a big part of my career. I write business correspondence, marketing copy, feature articles for newspapers, and persuasive speeches.
I have successfully tutored family members and fellow classmates, and I have helped friends and colleagues edit their research papers and essays so their words “pop.” I really enjoy interacting and connecting with students one-on-one. I have learned to listen well and help people diagnose problem areas, so we can strategize appropriate solutions. I am patient, flexible and thorough, and I believe that it can – and should – be fun to learn. I look forward to helping students achieve their goals. I really enjoy helping people succeed. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
