Western Michigan University (French)
A native of Michigan, Madeleine began studying the French language at home. Her desire to become bilingual stemmed from her large multicultural family with Western European roots. She aspired to become fluent enough to be able to live and work on her own in the country where her grandfather lived for the last decade of his life.
She first visited France in Spring 2008, where she lived in an Eastern city close to the border of Switzerland called Besançon. There, she studied both written and oral French, including French culture and literature. She stayed with two host families and tutored her 13-year old host sister and her 21-year old host brother in English.
Having had such an amazing experience abroad, Madeleine returned to France a second time (in a small town about an hour east of Bordeaux) to teach as an English teaching assistant for the academic school year of 2009-2010. There, she taught both high school and middle school students, while tutoring students of all ages in her free time. She believes the best way to learn is to have fun while learning and to have a strong passion for knowledge. She tries to incorporate this belief into each lesson she plans.
She has been tutoring since 2009 in both French and English, with students from different backgrounds. She has completed a Masters in International Administration at Central Michigan University and taught as a French teacher at a charter school in Detroit, Michigan. I was very lucky to find a tutor as outstanding as Madeleine. My daughter has been taking French lessons from her and we couldn't be happier with Madeleine's teaching methods, knowledge of the subject, and availability. Madeleine is great at keeping in touch to make sure we're able to meet for her scheduled lesson every week. She is a very easy person to work with and my daughter feels very comfortable with her as her teacher. If you're in need of assistance with French, I highly recommend Madeleine B.
Madeleine, is very knowledgeable in French and was able to help my 14 year old daughter understand her Middle School French assignment.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
