About Judy

I have a degree in Education from the University of Michigan, with a major in music and a minor in math, and taught in public schools for 2 1/2 years in Michigan and in North Carolina.

Then I decided to go back to school and get a degree in Engineering. This degree took a little longer because I now had small children, but I was able to get a second bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering. My most recent work experience has been in the corporate environment working in IT and in staff development. I am concerned that the US is behind the rest of the world in successfully teaching math and science, and I would like to help students with the math portion.

Algebra is the language of science, and I used it continuously in the pursuit of my engineering degree. My math courses on the college level included analytic geometry, calculus, statistics and stochastic processes. Then, of course, all of the physics courses used algebra (statics and dynamics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, etc).

Mentoring is my favorite method of teaching, You may never get to the point of liking math, but I can help you to become less intimidated by math.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
