About Jack

I am a math teacher with more than 10 years of teaching experience. I am currently teaching at a high school, but have extensive experience teaching both middle school and high school math.

I have now been a tutor for several years, working with many students of differing ages and abilities. I believe my strength as a tutor is being able to explain difficult concepts in a way that makes them easily understandable. As a result, I have seen each of my students grow in confidence from their very first session. Increased confidence is the key to success in math; a more confident student will approach problems with a "can do" attitude and be more likely to succeed.

I would be happy to work with students of all ages. I am able to tutor elementary, middle and high school math (Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2). Please check my times for my availability. In addition, I am available daily during school breaks.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me. I usually respond within a couple of hours.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I am a published author on several Algebra 1 level text books in the UK. I have extensive teaching experience in the United States and the United Kingdom, including several years teaching and tutoring Algebra 1. I love working with students who have found math a challenge and want to have increased confidence and success in math. I also have the experience, resources and subject knowledge to challenge the most able students.

Geometry

I have extensive teaching experience in the United States and the United Kingdom, including several years teaching and tutoring Geometry. I love working with students who have found math a challenge and want to have increased confidence and success in math. I also have the experience, resources and subject knowledge to challenge the most able students.

Prealgebra

I have been a contributing author on 4 books in the UK written at a Prealgebra level. I have over 10 years teaching experience at this level. I am confident my patient tutoring approach will support students who find math a challenge and enable them to gain increased confidence in the subject. For student who are aiming to get prepared for Algebra 1 and beyond, I have the knowledge and resources to challenge these students and make them think about the math in new ways.

Trigonometry

I have extensive experience teaching trigonometry as part of the Algebra 2 course and as its own course. In this setting, I have worked with students who find trigonometry a challenge. These students succeed in part due to my patient approach and excellent explanations. I have also authored a trigonometry chapter in a UK text book, so I understand the material in a way that will challenge even the most advanced student.
