I am a recent graduate from Western Michigan University with a M.S in Biological Sciences. My thesis work was done in the BSL-2 Microbiology laboratory of Professor Silvia Rossbach, in the Department of Biological Sciences. It focused upon the regulation of Inositol catabolism in Sinorhizobium meliloti, the nitrogen fixing symbiont of alfalfa, and upon its involvement in plant-bacteria interactions as a nutritional signal. While completing my M.S. I also served as a Teaching Assistant for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (BIOS 2320) as well as Microbiology for Majors (BIOS 3120).

My skill set includes, but is not limited to, pipetting and liquid handling, solution and media preparation, DNA extraction, isolation, purification and characterization from various sources, bacterial propagation, the maintenance of stock cultures, aseptic technique, genetic manipulation for site directed mutagenesis, Western blotting, ELISA and SDS-PAGE. I have also done colorimetric enzyme and reporter gene assays. I have become proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and several other scientific software packages used to analyze data. I have demonstrated my ability to quickly learn to perform new lab techniques and independently carry out new procedures.

Although I am confident in my ability to work productively in a microbiology laboratory, I am very interested in gaining high-value skills which would make me an attractive candidate for positions involving eukaryotic cell biology and the associated analytical and preparative techniques. For this reason I am currently looking for positions which would allow me to gain this kind of experience, including unpaid internships and opportunities to volunteer my time in laboratories willing to teach me these techniques.
