I graduated from Oakland University with a BA in Spanish Language and Literature and a certificate in teaching English as a second language. As part of my certificate program, I taught an English class to a small group of Spanish speakers at Hispanic Outreach in Pontiac. I also tutored an OU student from India. My Spanish coursework focused on reading Spanish-language literature and writing analytical papers about it, also in Spanish. I am fascinated by language in general and by the relationship between Spanish and English in particular. I also have a great love of literature which I am eager to share with my students.

I also conference with each student and ask them to evaluate themselves in each of the four areas. I like to incorporate stories, folklore and culture into my ESL lessons to help students understand the language in context. When teaching writing, I try to draw out my students' creativity and help them express their opinions with thought-provoking assignments.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
