Hello! My name is John and I am currently employed as a High School English teacher in Metro-Detroit. I have taught all grades over my 25 year career and I am General Education and Special Education certified. My area of expertise is in teaching children and adults with dyslexia and language processing difficulties. I was trained 25 years ago using the Orton-Gillingham based reading interventions Project Read and The Wilson Reading System. (I currently teach reading using the Wilson Reading System because of the relative low cost of the course materials.)
I have worked with children and adults with dyslexia for 25 years. I am a certified Wilson instructor and trainer. I can guarantee that your child will be reading four to five grade levels higher within nine months based on a minimum of two lesson per week. This approach to reading is what is know as a V.A.K.T. method and requires practice after the lesson. That means that homework must be completed to see good results. With this reading method - all children can learn to read and at any level.
I have taught ACT and SAT writing at a Detroit area high school and produced consistent gains for my district over 10 years. I can teach ACT and SAT writing in small groups.
I currently use Wilson Reading System materials to teach reading to dyslexics and students with language processing problems. The following concepts are taught: phonics, syllabication, exceptions, blending, and reading fluency with 100% accuracy. I have worked with many students of high school age beginning in 10th grade and had all of these students go on to earn degrees at major universities.
I am easy going and also write comic books. I love teaching reading and can provide help where others have failed. I am results oriented and will make your child a better student and teach them to love reading. Hello! My name is John and I am currently employed as a High School English teacher in Metro-Detroit. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
