Central Michigan University (Spanish and English)
Oakland University (Master's)
I have been a teacher for the past 17 years. I enjoy working with students of all ages and have a range of experiences in working with students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade as well as in an online setting. I hold a current Michigan teaching certificate and have an undergraduate degree in education from Central Michigan University with majors in English and Spanish and a minor in Reading. I have a Masters in Education from Oakland University with an emphasis in Reading and Language Arts. I hold endorsements and am highly qualified to teach Spanish and Reading K-12 and English 7-12.
I teach Spanish at a public high school in Oakland County, Michigan where I was recognized with the award Teacher of the Year in 2011 and was nominated again in 2015. I have experience teaching high school level English as well. I am also currently employed by a online school and teach Spanish and Study Schools. I have experience teaching Spanish to students in grades K-6 and have experience in tutoring reading at the lower elementary level.
I have always had a deep love for reading and strong skills in writing with lead me to pursue this area in both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I have taught 9th, 10th and 11th grade English emphasizing reading comprehension, study skills and writing.
I began studying Spanish in eighth grade. My love of it caused me to take four years of Spanish in high school and earn a Spanish major in college. I have taught levels 1-5 at the high school level as well as developed programs for elementary aged students through volunteering, summer camps and clinics. I spent two summers studying abroad in Mexico as a college student. I have also traveled throughout Spain learning about it's history and culture.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
