I'm Tessa, and I love learning and teaching Math! I have a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D., in Applied Mathematics and have over twenty years of experience teaching at University and High School levels.  I have taught a wide range of mathematics, from ninth-grade Geometry to Partial Differential Equations.

I'm exceptionally fluent at tutoring the following subjects: Algebra (all levels), Trigonometry, Geometry, Precalculus, Business Calculus, Calculus (all flavors, including AP AB/BC, and Calculus I, II & III), Intro to Statistics, Probability and Statistics, AP Statistics, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, and Numerical Analysis.

I started tutoring other students when I was a mathematics major in college. Right around the time I took Calculus III, the school hired me to be a math tutor for a few hours a week. I've either tutored or taught math in a classroom ever since. I've taught all of the subjects listed in the classroom at least once and tutored them all, as well. I'm patient, good at explaining mathematics in plain language while at the same time building mathematics vocabulary, helping students see things in new ways, building upon the innate number sense that we all have.

I know that being good at math takes practice, like a muscle you need to flex. I promote a positive mathematics mindset, help students build symbolic fluency, focus on conceptual understanding and the meaning of notation rather than manipulating it, and help students reduce test anxiety. I can even help with personalized interdisciplinary projects. I'm thorough, detail-oriented, don't rush students, and above all, I'm patient.

I'm fully vaccinated for in-person lessons. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Patient and knowledgeable tutor/teacher!

This was my last session with Tessa before the class final and I couldn’t have passed the class without her! My various sessions with her helped solidify my skills and retaught me concepts I had forgotten about. I definitely recommend tutoring with Tessa!

Really Helpful

We went over lesson 8.1 for an upcoming quiz and I felt very confident at the end. We went over notes and practice problem so I was able to understand the concepts clearly.

Wonderful tutor!

Excellent tutor for my daughter. She learned the concept in less than an hour, gaining the confidence to stick with the class. Will definitely be booking another session for the next new concept.

Above my expectations and beyond!

Such a great match for my son! Tessa has so many wonderful skills and tools and creative ideas which resound with my teenage boy. Her patience and positive attitude go a long way! Her notes explaining each session are thorough and clear. Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication to supporting him in his process of growing in knowledge and confidence! Not only has she helped him improve his grade from F to C- in one half semester, but spurs on his growth by challenging him to the next level. He feels empowered now even though he is working through some learning disabilities. Tessa makes the lessons interesting to him and he enjoys learning once again from a long hiatus of interest. It is wonderful to see him self-confident in this subject! We are so grateful.

Help with my Homework for Calc 3 & Differential Equation

Tessa W. is an expert, very knowledgeable, trained and know what she's teaching. I love the way she show you how to learn stuff, gives you examples, provides you with books feedback etc. I would keep definitely taking her tutoring once per 2 weeks. She's very helpful and wants you to understand the material and become an expert like her.

Excellent tutor!

My daughter had her first tutoring session with Tess today. Tess was wonderful at explaining all of the complicated material to her. She went above and beyond really making sure she understood what she was learning. My daughter now understands difficult concepts that she was having a lot of trouble with. My daughter will continue going to Tess for help going forward in her class. I would highly recommend Tess to anyone!

Great tutor

I was struggling with some topics in Calculus 1 and Tessa helped explain to me these concepts. She worked with me for a few hours and was very patient and helpful. I highly recommend her to someone who needs help in Calculus or any other math subject(although I can not speak from experience for those subjects).
