Parents and students, I have been teaching children since 1991 when I graduated from college. I have taught children of all ages and ability levels. I believe a child will be more productive if you have a positive rapport with the child. So, I take the time to get to know the child. I want to know what they like, don't like, what they believe in, and how they feel about life in general. Most important, I believe all children can learn. They don't learn at the same pace, same style, or same setting but they can all be taught.
I taught in the Detroit Public School system for 17 years. I resigned this year as I felt my time there was complete. I now teach at a charter school in the downriver area. I teach fourth grade and tutor seventh and eighth graders in math. I enjoy working with children of all ages in all subject areas. I have taught bilingual students and taught students at a Sylvan Learning Center. I enjoy teaching children in any setting and enjoy watching them learn a new concept.
I look forward to helping you in any way I can. I hope to hear from you soon.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Valparaiso University. I also earned a Master of Teaching from Wayne State University.
I have been a certified teacher for over 20 years. I have taken numerous classes that teach children of all ages how and why study skills are important. If I feel I am not comfortable enough with study skills, there are numerous opportunities for me to gain knowledge.
