I am a certified and experienced teacher. I have taught for 25 years. I have a K-8th certification in Math and a minor in English-Speech. I have experience with 5th grade and 4th grade classrooms. I went on to become certified as a Reading Specialist and served students in preschool through 6th grade. I then went on to become a learning disabilities teacher and have taught these students and other special education students in 7th through 12th grade. I then went on to become certified in working with dyslexic students. I have taught reading, English, math, science and have supported social studies, health, American history, modern history and drafting. I also supported students who went to the Skill Center at the local college with the book part of their trades which included auto mechanics, auto body, food service, etc. You will find that I can teach most subjects.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified to work with Learning Disabled students, many of which are ADD/ADHD. I have 25 years of teaching experience working with these students. Research indicates that these students should not have a lot of stimuli but a consistent environment.
I have taken Ballroom Dancing lessons for a number of years. I have taken Ballroom Dancing lessons from a dancer who owns her own studio. I know how to do various ballroom dances. Some of the dances I know are the fox trot and waltz.
I am qualified to tutor in Career Development because I have experience in doing so. I have taught high school students in various areas of Career exploration. Some of the areas I have taught were Auto Mechanics, Auto Body, Cosmetology, Food Service, etc. I have taught the basics of these through informational moduals. I taught the book part of these careers also. The students went on to the Skill Center to practice the skills taught. I went to the Skill Center to check on their performance.

I have had training and am certified to teach Dyslexic Students. I have taught Dyslexic Students for 20 years. I use the Orton-Gillingham Method of teaching. This method uses a hands on method of teaching.

I am qualified to tutor general music because I have been taught music from three different music teachers. I have been taught how to read music. I have been taught how to play both the piano. I took a class at the University playing piano. I also have been taught how to play the guitar. The teacher who taught me guitar was teaching me on a one to one basis. He taught me how to read notes and cords and now I know how to read notes and cords and can teach others how to do so.
I am qualified to tutor in handwriting. I have tested preschool for this skill. I have also taught the traditional handwriting technique. I have worked with classroom students and special education and special needs students to help them in their handwriting. One technique I would use is their large muscles groups and then their small muscle groups. Another technique would be to use templates to help, perhaps even some imagery and tactile methods.
I am certified as a teacher for dsylexic students whose basic training is in phonics. I have taught dsylexic students for about twenty years. I use the Orton-Gillingham form of instruction. Every lesson is a hands on lesson.
