I am an experienced tutor in many subjects. I have a BBA and a MBA from the University of Georgia. I am also an active CPA with a license issued by the State of Georgia. For the past eight years, I have taught history, English, accounting, finance, and other subjects while living in France. Since returning to the United States, I have been a tutor for many students at the high school, college, and graduate school level. I will be happy to provide references. I also realize that every student learns differently, therefore, I adapt my teaching techniques to the student. I am an experienced tutor in many subjects. I prefer to teach in two hour segments. Less wasted time in traveling and in the lesson itself.
My confidence is totally boosted. I can do this thanks to Irv.
I was referred to Irv by a friend who told me what a great tutor he was, and he IS. I apparently didn't really know how to study, and he realized this very quickly. He showed me how to take concepts and apply them to problems which made them very easy to understand. He is really laid back and we work well as a team. I now feel confident that I will finally "get this".
I enjoyed teaching my methods of how I got to a problem. I learned more that way and our session was very productive.
I am now studying heavily for the SAT. I never thought I could do this, but with Irv's help I am very confident now. Thank you, Irv, for all of your hard work and devotion to my studies. You make learning fun and a lot easier than I thought. 6-6-13
I now would like to study with Irv on a daily basis, preparing for the SAT. Hopefully, I will be able to enter college in the fall of this year. if not, then after the first of the year. Thanks Irv, for all of your help and guidance. You are amazing and have given me the confidence to KNOW that I can do this.
Awesome Tutor! Irv was patient, kind, and explained in simple terms things that were very complicated to me. I am now very confident that I will pass my GED. I was SO worried since I have not been in school for many years.
Second session was even better than the first. He got down to the basics that I was confused about, but now understand. I highly recommend him as he thoroughly explains what I don't understand in simple terms.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have had great success in teaching children and adults with ADD/ADHD. The key to my success is patience and the understanding that every ADD/ADHD student is different; therefore learns differently. Teaching/learning is slower and must be made fun to keep their interest. I fully understand the different techniques needed which is basically that the teacher must adapt to the learning style of the student.
I have a son who is a classic dyslexic. I learned the methods to teach him to read and write. On average, I would say that it took him at least twice as long to learn anything academic. He graduated from Wofford College, eared an MBA at the University of South Carolina, and a law degree from the College of Charleston. Each dyslexic learns different, as we all do, requiring the tutor to experiment with different methods of teaching.
I have four children. They were all home schooled at some point. They range from average to above average IQs. I believe there is always a method to explain anything to a student. It is simply finding the right method and making learning fun. All of my children scored above 675 on each part of the SAT. All went to major colleges and earned either a law degree or a master's degree. I am very confident in my teaching skills. Most importantly, I am very patient and know when a method is not working and when a student is "shutting-down."
I have been using QuickBooks in my CPA practice teaching every employee how to use it. I am certified in the course by a CPA governing body.
I can provide a copy of the QuickBooks course completion for my CPA certificate for continuing education.
This is a subject that I have studied for more than 30 years. I have investigated or read most every article written on the subject. I currently have a med student for the sole purpose of helping him be effective with his study time. Every student learns differently, therefore, the study plans I develop are different for each student. Some of the items I take into consideration are: a study schedule, music or no music, eliminate distractions, follow a routine, reading in bed, the complexity of the material, the use of flashcards, underlining, note taking, when to stop studying as efficiency decreases, exercise, sleep, diet, to cram or not and how to do it. My list goes on and on. I also teach how to study for a particular test or professor. I have concluded that about 70% of time my students call study is really wasted time. Study efficiently means learning the material more rapidly giving you more time for fun. Also, how to completely eliminate test anxiety.
