I am a world-traveled chemical engineer with 40+ years experience in the chemical, petroleum, and environmental industries. I graduated from Midland High in 1960 and from the University of Detroit in 1965. I did post-grad evening studies in law and business but traveled so much that I could not complete to graduation.
I was a substitute teacher for Midland Public Schools from 2000 to 2006. I specialized in math and sciences. I also substituted for French, German, and some computer oriented subjects where I have expertise. Several teachers at Dow High and Midland High preferred me and requested me to substitute for them. I have letters of recommendation from teachers and administrators. I kept a disciplined classroom and made a detailed daily report for each teacher.
I was a guest lecturer at UCLA and UCI on environmental subjects. I taught a semester of chemistry at SVSU.
I am new to tutoring. I would approach each student initially by reviewing recent tests to see where the weaknesses are. We would go from there working out the problems and building confidence. Many students do not like chemistry and algebra. Because of that they sluff off and miss the opportunity for a free education and future opportunities. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my B.Ch.E. in 1965 from the University of Detroit. I worked as a chemical process engineer, project engineer, and project manager for about 40 years. I have worked in chemical plants, petroleum refineries, and other process plants. I have worked for engineering firms and environmental consultants as process engineer, department manager, and project manager. This work has been throughout the USA and overseas. My most recent work has been as a contractor at Dow Chemical Company and at Hemlock Semiconductor writing procedures manuals and assisting with start up of new facilities.
I have been an amateur photographer since the early 1970's. I used 35 mm range finder cameras and several Olympus OM SLRs with a number of lenses. I shot BW Tri-X, Kodachrome, and Ektachrome. I processed Ektachrome in my kitchen. I changed gradually to digital in about 2005. I'm on my second point-and-shoot and second Nikon SLR. Most of my photography is for my travel web site, originally a travel book. It includes a discussion of digital photography. I have been a substitute teacher in Midland Public Schools for about 6 years, specializing in high school math and science. I taught a general chemistry course as an adjunct at Saginaw Valley State University for one semester. I received my degree in chemical engineering in 1965 and have worked on chemical plant and petroleum refining projects around the world. My resume is available upon request.
