Western Michigan University (Child Development)
Hi there! My name is Stacy, and I have a lot of experience working with children. In addition to having three sons ages six, seven, and eight, I previously worked in a school-age classroom at a local childcare center, and taught preschool for three years! I currently teach five children during the summer in my home, with one of them being special needs.
I hold an associate degree in child development and early education from Lansing Community College, where I received the blue ribbon writing award for my writing portfolio. I am currently a senior and studying Child Development at Western Michigan University where I currently hold a 3.94 GPA. I am also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
I have a love of learning as well as a passion for teaching children. I believe in creating a warm relationship with children, so that I can gain their trust and cooperation. I will not sit down and do a lesson the first time I meet your child, I will do something they are interested in so they can get to know me, and I can get to know them. This philosophy separates me from other tutors, and is a huge reason as to why children respond and do well with me as their teacher/tutor.
I also believe in incorporating what we learn into the real world, so depending on what your child and I are working on, with your permission, I will be creative and find a way to integrate the lesson into something real and practical (such as a pizza date when we are learning about fractions).
I do not charge for my first session of getting to know your child, however I do charge $45 per hour for each session after that. I ask for a 3 hour cancellation notice, and I highly recommend setting up a make-up session if possible.
I prefer to do tutoring sessions in the home, because I believe children benefit from learning in their natural environment. After all, this is where your child spends his/her time doing homework. However, if you prefer the sessions be out of the home, I can do sessions in my home office.
I look forward to hearing from you, and helping your child reach their optimal level of success. Take care! Hi there! My name is Stacy, and I have a lot of experience working with children. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor elementary education because I hold an associate degree in early education, and I am currently a Child Development major at Western Michigan University, where I am a senior and hold a 3.95 GPA. I am also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.
