About Eric

My name is Eric. I have been tutoring for 20 years. I have also volunteered over 500 hours in area schools working directly with teachers. I also have two of my former teachers helping me with any questions or concerns I have about the material I use. (They have a combined experience of over 70 years.)

If you are a student of mine, you have access to me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even holidays.

I guarantee that as a student of mine, if you work very hard, ask questions and are serious about improving grades, self-esteem, or anything else related to school, it will happen.

I deal with a diverse population of students. Some improved their grades in as little as 6 months, others needed a couple years. Each student is an individual, and I treat them as such.

My experience also includes working with students who have mental, physical, learning and emotional disabilities.

When you contact me about tutoring, or in response to me emailing you, I will reply within 24 hours.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

My specialty is ADD/ADHD. I have had ADD since childhood, and I am able to assist students with little tricks and techniques on how to keep focused in school and on homework. Most of these ides I have taught myself and many other students. ADD and ADHD affects how we learn - whether child, teen, or adult. By showing students how to cope and deal with these learning issues, they can become very successful. Most of my students with ADD or ADHD have succeeded and are doing extremely well.

ASVAB

To all potential students:

I have experience in the subjects required for ASVAB testing. I also have access to study materials. Appointment times are flexible. What my office will need from you is basic information on how you are doing/have done in high school. If you have high school transcripts or report cards available, that will be even more ehelpful

Chess

To potential students:

I learned how to play chess in 6th grade. Since then I have taught children as young as age 5 how to play.

It's a great way to relax!

Elementary (K-6th)

To all potential clients:

I have extensive knowledge in k-6 material, all subjects. The majority of my students are k-6. I have access to reading assessments for low-level readers. I create my own lesson plans and have a former k-6 teacher available for consult. He retired with 39 years of experience. I can also work you child's teacher(s)to better address your child's needs.

For children in k-2 I also used Hooked on Phonics to help teach reading.

Phonics

For those of you with children who are having a hard time reading:

I believe in teaching children read using phonics. I have had great success in this style both with my own students and when I volunteered in schools. I have the Hooked on Phonics program which is very useful.

Religion

To potential clients with children receiving religious education.

I am a graduate of Manistee Catholic Central. I had daily Religion class and I have the ability to help your child/ren in k-12. I also have teachers that can assist me if needed.

Special Needs

To parents of special needs students:

For almost 20 years I have worked with special needs children. In fact children with learning disabilities (LD) is my specialty. I myself have had ADHD my entire life. I've learned little tricks over the year that are helpful.

Study Skills

To all potential clients:

Study skills are very important. I took a class on study skills in HS and college. I also have a former HS teacher on staff that has had experience assisting their students. Without proper study skills, higher education will be difficult.
