I truly have a passion for teaching students. I believe that students can succeed the most when they are given one-on-one instruction based on their individual needs. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught first grade for two and a half years. I also have experience in working with students in second through fifth grade through student teaching and college coursework. I have specifically tutored first and second grade students in Reading and Math through the elementary school I work with. I also have tutored a fifth grade student in Math.
I currently teach first grade. Intensive phonics instruction is a huge part of teaching first graders to learn to read. I use a curriculum called Reading Street with my current first graders. Each day of the week includes set Phonics activities in a specific order that helps students learn new sounds and word patterns. Teaching high frequency words is also an integral part of teaching students to read. Once students master words that can be known by sight, they can unlock many keys to reading.
