My name is Ms. Mary D. and I am a middle school Math and Science teacher in Warren, Michigan. This is my eighth year of teaching. Prior to teaching in Michigan I taught 7th and 8th grade Mathematics, Algebra 1, in Las Vegas Nevada. I became certified in Algebraic Thinking in 2007. I also taught Algebra 2 in Ferndale’s summer school program for two years. I am passionate about teaching and building student confidence in the subject. I graduated from the University of Michigan with high distinction in April 2006. I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education K-8 with majors in Mathematics and Science. During my time at college I also worked in the math tutoring lab. My teaching strategies include hands-on manipulatives and individualized instruction along with the district's curriculum. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
