About Angela

I am a certified special education teacher with nineteen years of experience. My current teaching position gives me the opportunity to work with students from kindergarten through fifth grade. I love working with children and fostering their love for learning. Every student can learn and it is my job to individualize education to make that happen.

I strongly believe in differentiated instruction. Differentiating instruction is an approach to maximize the potential of each student, and ensure that all students have access to education. My teaching advocates active planning and ongoing assessments. My lessons are based on the students' needs.

I aim to foster conceptual understanding, developing children’s procedural math literacy, and promoting strategic competence through meaningful problem-solving investigations. For pre-kindergarten through second grade, I provide instruction that helps them understand patterns and measurement and develop a solid understanding of the numeration system. In the upper elementary years, I encourage students to develop and investigate solutions to everyday problems. My instruction focuses on the relationship between such processes as addition and multiplication, and subtraction and division. Students will be introduced to multiplicative reasoning, equivalence, and a variety of methods for computation.

I have extensive training in literacy instruction and teaching using balanced literacy. Balanced literacy is not a simple model or a program with scripted lessons, rather it is a structure within which teachers offer research-based instruction. The components of a 'balanced literacy' approach are as follows: The read aloud, guided reading, shared reading, interactive writing, shared writing, Reading Workshop, Writing Workshop and Word study. I aim to include the strongest elements of each.

I have been teaching in the elementary setting for 15 years.

I have a degree in special education. My entire career has been dedicated to empowering students with a variety of challenges in both the general and special education settings. In addition, I have a son that received special education services under the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) eligibility.

I welcome your inquiries and would love to help your child build a foundation for a successful future.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Aspergers

I am a certified special education teacher. I have nineteen years of experience working with students of all ability levels with eligibility is a variety of special education needs including students on the autistic spectrum. In addition, I have a son that has Asperger's syndrome. Raising him and advocating for him his entire life has made me a better teacher and allowed me to communicate with parents on a completely different level as I can relate with their struggles.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified elementary teacher with 19 years of experience in the public school system. I support special education students in grades kindergarten through fifth. I individualize the education of the students on my caseload and support their learning so that they can make gains and be successful in the general education curriculum.

Reading

I am excited to share the knowledge I acquired at The Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) training. LLI is a powerful, short-term intervention, that provides intensive instruction, which supplements classroom literacy teaching. LLI turns struggling readers into successful readers with engaging leveled books and fast-paced, systematically designed lessons. I use this program in my resource room with great success. I would love to offer tutoring sessions using these strategies as well.

Special Needs

I am a certified special education teacher. I have nineteen years of experience. My first six years of teaching were in self-contained special education classrooms. More recently, I have been a teacher consultant and resource room teacher for 13 years servicing all special education students in the building I am assigned to.
