Hello!

I enjoy tutoring and helping students achieve. I have taught at all levels - university, community college, and most recently (as a substitute teacher) in high, middle and elementary school. These experiences have given me the ability to adjust my teaching methods and approach to specific needs of each age group and skill level.

My Approach to Tutoring:

My ACT, SAT and other admission test prep sessions involve practice, practice and practice. I also give my students test-taking strategy. The high scoring students don't just sit down and answer every question. There are differences between the ACT and SAT exams. They must be approached differently with different strategies. My past students have gained confidence in their test-taking ability and have all raised their scores significantly.

Build trust in me and confidence in yourself. You are unique. We will discover your strengths and build from there. Tutoring is a private matter. I want to be your "secret weapon" to help you vanquish those math and science demons. I want you to believe in yourself. Education is a life-long journey. I want you to enjoy the journey.

My Background:

My B.S. is from Purdue University. I am certified by the National Tutoring Association as a Master Tutor and Advanced Academic Coach. I hold a life-time California Community College Instructor credential in six subject areas. Additionally, I am a Certified Professional Coach with experience in career development and study skills building. My hobbies are ham radio and astronomy. I'm married with two daughters, both recent graduates of Michigan State University.

Pay attention to the story and characters, but don't get bogged down in the specific details of the passage.

The key to doing well on the SAT Reading exam is practice your grammar and vocabulary words. You will not read long passages like on the ACT Reading Exam. Very personable and pleasant.

James is very excited about teaching math concepts. He still loves the art of teaching students. He is not a distracted teacher such as (working on his degree, iphone calls). He is focused on your student being the very best.
