UAF, Fairbanks Alaska
Hello, My name is Tara and I attended the University of Alaska (UAF) . I graduated in 2010 with an Associates degree in Applied Science. My concentrations were in Entrepreneurship and Marketing. I am a member of the Golden Key Society and of the alumni association at UAF. Sounds amazing doesn't it? (It's not.) After all that work I found that my real passion is for photography. Two years before I graduated I bought an Olympus E 410 and over time obtained several lenses. While I was working on my degree and working full time, I was clicking away with my camera. I liked it so much that I started taking photography classes at the college to learn more about this crazy little hobby. Then I thought while I am at it I may as well take a Photoshop class too and so I did. Although, I have to admit that I really rather prefer to edit my photos in camera Raw. The edits go much quicker when you are editing four hundred photos. Time passed and I started getting better at everything I was learning about photography. Even now, long after my graduation, I continue to study photography. I feel the learning never stops. So, I study from books, online, and by going out and taking hundreds of photos. I want to add a side note that if you are not into digital photography but rather film photography I have information available on how to process photos in a dark room as well. I may be a little rusty but as my instructors at the college always pointed out It's not what you keep stored directly in the forefront of your mind, it's if you know where to find the information when you need it. I am a believer in working from books and hands on at the same time. I have all the materials and knowledge needed to teach digital photography. I am excellent at camera raw edits and although I do not formally teach it I can teach basic beginning edits in Photoshop CS4. I feel that photography and photo editing go hand in hand. I am currently working on a web site for starting my business and I am on Facebook, Twitter and am just getting started on Deviant Art. I have sold my photography through Fine Art America.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
While in college at the University of Alaska, among the many classes I attended was a class called Adobe Photoshop 4 (CS4) and passed. However, the class pales in comparison to having practiced with CS4 on and off since 2010. Although Photoshop can be interesting and sometimes fun, I prefer editing with camera raw first and then if there are additional edits to be made, I open Photoshop. This is true for me even while shooting in .jpg format. I teach how to use Bridge, Camera Raw, and the very basics of CS4 and I get you well on your way to beautiful editing by sharpening, cropping, removing low noise, using tools, making collages from many photographs, and more.
I have taken classes at The University of Alaska in the subject of photography. Specific classes are Black and White Photography, Digital Photography and photoshop CS4. Furthermore, I have done a bunch of self teaching from books videos and just plain practice.
