Bio

I have trained many co-workers and others in high school math, accounting (15+ years), Microsoft Excel (20+ years) and other subjects. These skills are fundamental to the work I have done throughout my career as a Financial and Reporting Analyst. At work I have learned to perfect my training skill by creating "Desk Procedures" with visuals, "screen capture", and narrative. (I like to think of them as mini user manuals). When done correctly, the novice can follow them as well as the person perusing, needing a refresher. I realize that this stems from being taught to "show my work" and being thorough.

I earned my Masters of Management Information Systems online which had its advantages and challenges. With my Master's Degree I specialized in Databases and during one of my assignments, I discovered MS Excel tools that automate data sourcing and reporting. These Excel tools replace what previous Excel users, used Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPS for; actually, these tools can replace most of what VBA can achieve. My latest project was creating Dashboards and creating a custom analysis tool that did side-by-side comparisons of two vehicles down to the part level.

What do I love most about tutoring? When you teach something to someone else you are giving of yourself and teaching is the last perspective of knowledge on a subject. What does "last perspective" mean? Most people learn visually, audibly, or by experience, but when you teach, your students sometimes ask questions you never thought of, so it is like learning the subject from their perspective, and I find that really interesting. Teaching solidifies and brings new light to my understanding of the subject.

I was an excellent math student up to and including Trigonometry. Until my college sophomore year I was an pre-Engineering student and then switched over to Finance. With my Bachelor's degree I have a minor in Finance, schooled in Accounting, 15 years of experience "closing the (departmental) books" and developing Managerial Accounting and Reporting.

Drawing

Drawing

I began creating art at about 10 years old, was constantly adding skills until I graduated from high school. I have about 50 works including Pencil, Charcoal, Pen & Ink, Scratchboard, Watercolor, Wax, Marker, Colored Pencil, Acrylic, Oil, Pastels, Leather and Clay. If you would like to see my works I could make a gallery of my portfolio to share. The start of learning art is: focal point, perspective, shapes, forms, light source, shadows, variations of line weights and shades. Today I am in my 50s, but the skills come back like riding a bike.

Business

Microsoft Excel,

Microsoft Excel

I have used MS Excel for 25+ years and I am also experienced in the most technical applications of it Power Query, Power Pivot DAX, M Code, SQL, VBA. Whether you are trying to set up formulas, a graph, a table or a complicated analysis I got you covered. I think my two most important skills are patience and listening.

Microsoft Windows,

Microsoft Windows

I am a seasoned Microsoft Windows User. I have used 11 Versions: Microsoft Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows 11 & Windows Phone 6.0 in both work and home settings. I can show students popular tasks such as, linking a Windows PC to a phone or smart phone to download / transfer pictures and files. Could also show how transfer mp3 files to a music player or phone. How to do PC maintenance. How to analyze PC for upgrades.
Visual Basic

Visual Basic

I learned and programmed in BASIC (same language and functions ) in high school 35 years ago. I have been recording and editing my own VBA macros and code since (Excel 4.0) 25+ years ago. I have created a couple stand alone applications in Visual Basic, a music player and a custom calculator after a course in VB.NET. My specialty is VBA in Excel, I recently created a 70 tab spreadsheet that uses VBA, DAX (Powerpivot) and MDX to download data from SQL Server, dynamic charting that compares and analyzes the cost of any two GM vehicles manufactured over the past 16 years and charts them in a bridge/waterfall chart. (This type of chart is commonly used in plotting stock price changes, to walk the reader through the changes as they read the chart from left to right.)

Helpful and qualified

James introduced me to Power Query to help with some work projects. He was prompt and communicative to set up a training session. He explained every thing very clearly and patiently. I will continue to use James as a source to improve on my Power Query and Excel skills.
