Hi, I'm Andrew. I graduated from Miami University with a degree in Communications. I landed a job in which I was a consultant and trainer for a public relations company. I found myself enjoying the experiences with clients who came into the meeting not knowing how to do something, and then leaving with a complete understanding of our product. It was at this point that I returned back to college to get into education. I got my teaching certificate for secondary education from Ferris State University. I majored in Mathematics because the subject has always been entertaining for me. I used my Communications degree as a springboard for my minor, English. While attending Ferris State, I began to tutor my classmates. This gave me a glimpse of what teaching would be like.
After years of teaching, I am starting to see what really works for my students. I approach each learning target with the mindset of "I do. We do. You do." This allows me to show correct methods of solving problems and then passing the baton to my students and letting them experience the problems on their own. I have worked with students of all levels. I currently teach 6th and 7th grade mathematics, which means I can use the foundations of math to bridge any learning gaps. I also teach Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry giving me an understanding of everything needed to learn secondary mathematics.
School has always been an important part of my life. The skills learned go beyond the topics being discussed. I love learning. My hope is that all of my students see a love of learning and that it is contagious.
