About Kevin

I graduated from high school in 2011 as valedictorian and gained substantial tutoring experience in both mathematics (algebra and geometry) and chemistry for junior high school and high school students. Immediately following graduation, I enrolled at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where I pursued a double major in Biochemistry and German. Throughout my undergraduate education, I took advanced coursework in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. My specialty is tutoring in mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus) or science (chemistry, biology, physics), although I am happy to tutor in a wide variety of subjects including German and English if desired. Additionally, I will tutor for test preparation such as the ACT or SAT and have had much success when tutoring high school students in preparing for these examinations.

As a recent college graduate, I can easily relate to high school-aged and college-aged students. Furthermore, as a future physician, I have a true passion for helping people. My tutoring approach begins with providing a base knowledge and asking about areas in which a student feels less comfortable. I generally demonstrate how to solve problems first but then encourage students to apply the knowledge by tackling problems themselves. In mathematics and science, I strongly believe that mastery of material comes with practice and problem solving.

Note**: I am currently only tutoring students online. Please reach out to me if you are a former student interested in further tutoring via WyzAnt's online platform or a new student looking for some quick assistance with homework or test preparation! I look forward to working with students and assisting them in reaching their highest potential.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

Here are a few additional testimonials for algebra specifically:

"Knowledgeable and patient tutor."
Kevin is helping with algebra...Thankful he's been able to sit with our son and go thru each lesson very patient and caring. We are glad to have Kevin as our son's tutor.

"Provides positive and realistic goals"
Kevin is a tutor that is knowledgeable and up to date with Algebra 2 that is currently taught in schools. He gave our son positive and realistic goals to reach while also being patient and encouraging towards our son. Kevin helped our son gain confidence in his ability to tackle tough tests. We will call on Kevin again when our son enters college. Thank you Kevin!

College Counseling

I worked in admissions at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI for several years. My main roles included presenting information sessions to large groups of 500+ individuals and reading applications. I also met with prospective students nearly daily to provide information on how to be a competitive applicant.

Organic Chemistry

I graduated from the University of Michigan last year with a degree in Biochemistry, which required me to take many chemistry courses in both organic and inorganic chemistry. I took an introductory sequence of Organic Chemistry 1, 2, and 3 with the associated laboratory courses. I also took a 400 level course titled 'Intermediate Organic Chemistry' which focused on detailed reaction mechanisms.

I do have experience tutoring high school students in Organic Chemistry, and I have found that teaching this subject is all about showing a student how to visualize molecules in three dimensions. I always suggest that my students acquire a 3D-model kit for understanding important concepts such as stoichiometry and substitution reactions.

Excellent!!

Kevin is an amazing tutor. My son was having a hard time understanding how his Physics teacher was explaining the material and was struggling on the exams. With just a few lessons with Kevin, he got an 87% on his last test! And hopes to improve even more with additional lessons with Kevin. He teaches the subjects in a way that is easy to understand. We are thrilled to have found him as a tutor
