Michigan State University (Public Affairs and Education)
Hello! My name is Ernest, I am also known as Jahvon. I am a current scholar at Michigan State University studying comparative cultures and politics and elementary education with history. My first tutoring job was a internship at a local public school where I tutored 1st graders phonics. Since then I've interned at several schools tutoring elementary students in various subjects. In 2012 I was hired to tutor fourth graders in English and math at Pattengail Academy. Currently I volunteer at a mental health Clinic where I tutor English and math to adults looking to obtain their GED. I am well rehearsed or knowledgeable in History, Social Studies, Geography, English and Reading. In High School I ran the tutoring/mentoring program where I tutored 9th and 10th graders in history and math. I can tutor some topics in math and science but not all. I have worked with students from 1st grade through 12th grade. I have yet to find a student that I could not tutor. I am a very engaged tutor, I will put forth my very best effort to ensure a students understanding or comprehension of a subject. I do not have a set tutoring methods, because I believe all students learn differently. I can usually adapt to the learning style of a student that I am tutoring. Things that I do with students I tutor, I listen to find out why they might not understand a subject, I actively engage the student, so they will be able to find their own methods of understanding a subject by themselves, I always present or show the students multiple ways of understanding a subject. I am very patient and understanding with the student. I always maintain professionalism.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For the past year or so I have worked in an Elementary school in Lansing, Michigan tutoring elementary students. In High School, I interned in two different public schools, tutoring elementary students. I am going to school to teach elementary education at Michigan State University.
