Northwestern Michigan College (English)
The usual response to my chosen major, English, is: "Oh. Really? I hate English. How can you stand it? There are too many rules!" Even as a person who is enamored with punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure, I am sympathetic. Reading, writing, vocabulary, literature, and other English related subjects can be difficult and frustrating to master. I have dedicated my life to this pursuit, and I am passionate about helping others to feel comfortable and confident with English.
I have had the advantage of taking several honors English classes through the university I am now attending, as well as literature and communication classes. Also, I have been delighted to be involved with the editing and writing processes of a student publication on campus, through which I have had my work published. Because of my collaboration with this publication, I recently received an English Department award.
As a tutor, I will seek to make English related topics relevant to real world experiences. I recognize that individuals have varying interests and I will respect those interests, catering my lessons to engage various personalities.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
