I have been a secondary teacher for over ten years, and now I am moving in new directions. Most of my experience is in teaching English, grades 8-12 in remedial, regular, honors and Advanced Placement levels; but I have also taught Spanish and have my master's degree from the University of Southern California's Rossier Online program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
I can help students with improving their writing and reading skills, college application essays, learning Spanish and English, and public speaking and performance. I have been a writing coach, a Forensics assistant coach and state-level judge, poetry club moderator, and more. It would be my privilege and honor to help you with what you skills you need to improve.
I have helped over a thousand students with college application essays, most of whom then got into their top choice college or university; I am trained and certified in Advanced Placement Literature and Composition, and I have taught the class three times in different schools; and I have been a writing tutor and English teacher who has successfully used the Poetry Centered Classroom method to improve writing and test scores.
While Spanish is not my first language, it is my second. I have taught beginning Spanish learners on the middle school, high school, and alternative high school levels, and I am trained in the TPRS method as well as other leading second language acquisition methods.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught test prep most of my ten years of teaching, and when I taught at Albion HS before it closed, I was part of the small team in charge of specifically teaching ACT English test prep. We got the test scores from the 5th percentile to the 50th percentile in two years.
I taught English under the Common Core as soon as it was implemented in Michigan. I have been trained in it, taught it, and I am very familiar with its particular way of looking at reading and writing skills. I am especially experienced in teaching close reading skills.
I have tutored college students in writing and reading comprehension since my second year of teaching in 1999 when my former students moved on to college and ran into difficulties in some classes. I have been a writing coach, and I am trained and experienced in AVID and Reading Apprenticeship close reading strategies.
Grammar has always been one of my favorite areas of language study. I have been trained in and taught my students how to diagram sentences, use sentence string grammar to understand punctuation and sentence structure, and compare and contrast primary language grammar and target language grammar to better understand the underlying structures.
I finished my master's degree from the University of Southern California Rossier Online program in 2015. The IELTS test was a major area we worked in in the program, and I have years of experience in helping with test preparation. I can especially help in grammar and writing.
I have taught test prep for most of my ten years of teaching. I was also a part of the Albion HS team that specifically worked on raising test scores, and our students went from the 5th percentile to the 50tg percentile in 2 years.
I have taught middle school Spanish, helped write high school curricula for Spanish 1 and 2, and taught Spanish 1 and 2 at the high school level.
I have helped students improve their writing from the beginning of my teaching career, from editing and approving college application essays to moderating a poetry club. In my College Board training and experience in teaching Advanced Placement Literature and Composition as well as continuing to tutor former students at the college level, it has been my privilege to help students of all levels improve their essays and grammar knowledge.
