My name is Michele. I was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I attended and graduated from Mattawan Consolidated Schools. I later attended and graduated from Northern Arizona with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Science. More recently, I received my Master of Education Degree with a major in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) as well as Reading and ESOL (ELL) Endorsements. I have over 18 years of experience working with a variety of children who have diverse learning difficulties, backgrounds, socio-economic, and cultural differences in both Title 1 and non-Title 1 Orange County Public Schools and some Michigan school districts. I have taught second, third, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders as well as 12-18 year olds in Van Buren Intermediate School District’s Summer Migrant Education Program in Michigan.
My Michigan certification is K-5, all subjects (K-8, all subjects self-contained classroom) and Science (DX) 6-8. I received a “Highly Effective” rating for the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 school years. In addition to my classroom experience, I was also a mentor for students who are homeless or in need of extra social and academic support. I enjoy working with students who have diverse needs and use research-based strategies to help them to succeed emotionally and academically. I also completed Common Core ELA “Black Belt” training.
I love tutoring because it is an incredible accomplishment to see students who have difficulties rise above them and succeed!!
Biology is my favorite subject. Biology class in high school really boosted my academic success and self esteem when I had difficulty as a student.
I successfully tutored students during the school year and helped them pass the end of the year state exam. I love to teach reading because it opens up the world to students.
My Common Core qualifications include an extensive year-long training and implementation program in ELA or English Language Arts.
I am outstanding in Elementary Education and Science because of my years of experience and further study while attaining my Master of Education degree.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor using CCSS or Common Core Standards because I have taught with that curriculum for the past four years. I completed a Common Core ELA 6 month professional development as I implemented it in my classroom and have actively participated in numerous CCSS professional development courses both on-line and face-to-face. All of my Master's research was based on the Common Core Curriculum, so I am well versed in CCSS. I am currently writing an endorsement for a book about the Common Core as I was selected by the author to do so.
I am qualified to tutor Elementary (K-6th) because I have over 20 years of teaching elementary grades and earned my Master of Education with a concentration of ESE or Special Education. I have also substituted, mentored, tutored, and trained college interns in elementary education. I am certified to teach K-8, all subjects in a self-contained classroom; K-5, all subjects; and Science 6-8, in Michigan. I am certified to teach 1-6, all subjects; K-12, ESOL: K-12, Special Education: K-12, Reading in Florida.
