Western Michigan Univserity (Aerospace Engineering)
My name is Margaret, and I am a college sophomore at Western Michigan University studying Aerospace Engineering and music. I graduated as a valedictorian from Utica High school and Utica center for science and industry with a 4.02 GPA and a 29 ACT with a 12 on the writing portion. I was a part of the Oakland Youth Symphony for three years in the top orchestra as a cellist. My strong subjects include algebra, precalculus, calculus, ACT math, ACT writing, chemistry, cello, and voice.
I own many practice books for ACT prep. I like to find the strengths and weaknesses of students and teach them according to those strengths and weaknesses. I cross curricular teach, meaning I like to connect different subjects together to further enrich learning. I'm new to tutoring, but Margaret seemed very competent. My daughter liked her and enjoyed the tutoring session. I received positive feedback as a result of the tutoring from her teacher at school.
A+ Highly recommended to anyone studying Algebra or other areas in Mathematics. Very patient, thorough, flexible, positive, great feedback, and very knowledgeable.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been playing the cello for seven years have taught many students in the past two years. I was in the Oakland Youth Symphony Orchestra as a cellist and we played a variety of pieces including Tchaicovski's 5th Symphony. For beginners, I use the Strictly Strings book by Dillon, Kjelland, O'Reilly. Once my students master the art of controlling the cello and fingerings or if they are one of my more advanced students, I use the Suzuki books. I greatly enjoy the cello and believe it brings joy to all who play it. I love sharing this with as many people I can.
I have been playing the violin for nine years. The violin is a beautiful instrument and I love helping people learn it. For my beginner students, I use the Strictly Strings book. This book teaches how to correctly hold the bow and the violin as well as basic theory and fingerings. After my students have mastered the Strictly Strings program, I move on to the Suzuki books. There are several of these books with increasing difficulty.
