About Daniel

Hello, potential students!

My name is Daniel, and I'd like to thank you for looking into receiving tutoring from me. I am currently licensed as a Pre-K through 5th grade teacher in the state of Ohio and love to work with students to help them reach their goals. I specialize in reading and writing, but have experience in tutoring in both ELA and mathematics. When I'm not tutoring students, I enjoy writing poetry, skateboarding and listening to music.

My love for reading and writing came at an early age, and has driven me to write poems for a magazine, write front-page newspaper articles, and enjoy the classics of literature. I believe all learning can be enjoyable and will make it my priority to help put you at ease as we work together to help you accomplish your goals.

I look forward to speaking with you!

Thanks,
Daniel

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

While attending Bethel College, I took many Bible related classes, including Biblical Interpretation, Old Testament 1, New Testament 1, Old Testament 3: The Prophets, and I've studied some Koine New Testament Greek. I've received the "Outstanding Bible Student Award" in High School and continue to read the Bible daily. I've taught students Bible instruction at the Fort Wayne School of Urban Ministry.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently licensed to teach Pre-K through 5th grade in the State of Ohio. I have experience teaching grades 2-5 in direct instruction through implementing data-driven lesson plans I've created. I've also tutored and provided small group instruction to grades 3-5.

Elementary Math

As a Title 1 teacher, I have experience teaching students who struggle academically in mathematics and reading. Using data-driven instruction and personal, differentiated lessons I love to draw on students' interests to help them become the best learners they can be!

English

As a journalist I wrote front page news-articles for the South Bend Tribune, along with many community news articles. I've written poetry, company blog posts, and articles that were published both online and in print.

Handwriting

As a fourth grade English Language Arts teacher at Apex Academy in E. Cleveland, Ohio, it was my responsibility to teach not only the reading and writing aspects of English, but also handwriting. I taught both print and cursive writing through the use of practice books, modeling, and collecting/leaving intentional feedback in the journals of students.

Phonics

As a licensed teacher in the State of Ohio, I have taught pull-out groups and tutored students who are in the lowest academic tier. Through utilizing a multitude of strategies to assess, teach and remediate phonics concepts, I've improved students' test scores overall reading decoding and comprehension. I have used many proven methods to engage students and improve academic experience, including but not limited to whole brain learning, utilizing different modalities, and differentiating instruction to accommodate for specific student needs.

Reading

As a Title 1 teacher, I've utilized many reading comprehension strategies to engage students and help them achieve more academically. Some of these strategies include: the UNRAVEL technique, utilizing different modalities, and lesson differentiation that caters specifically to an individual student's needs and interests.
