Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I am a state and nationally certified school psychologist and licensed professional counselor who has worked evaluating and diagnosing students with various learning disabilities including dyslexia for over 30 years. I assisted in individualized programming and designing academic supports for success. I wrote behavioral plans, reports, and edited a variety of written submissions and newsletters while in this position. I have 2 Master's degrees, and work to maintain my skills with continued university level work.

ADD/ADHD

I was a school psychologist for 30 years and was responsible for assisting in diagnosis of students with ADHD. I led the 504 Accommodation Plan meetings in order to assure that students received adequate supports to assist them in their educational progress. Any student suspected of having ADHD in the schools I served was required to go through me.

Aspergers

I was a school psychologist for 30 years and was responsible for evaluating and diagnosing students w/ ASD. Students with Aspergers fall under the ASD eligibility umbrella. I would say over 50% of the ASD eligible students I worked with over the years carried the Aspergers label which was and is a clinical (not an educational) diagnosis. Students with the higher functioning Aspergers diagnosis typically did not have significant issues with academics. Rather the struggle was more social and relational. I assisted in determining educational programming designed to support academic progress, and in designing individualized plans for students with Aspergers Disorder.

Autism

I was a school psychologist for 30 years and was responsible for evaluating and diagnosing students w/ ASD. I also assisted in determining educational programming designed to support academic progress, and in designing individualized plans for students. Evaluations consisted of interviews with parents and teachers, observations in school/home, and one-to-one work with students.

Dyslexia

I am a state and nationally certified school psychologist and licensed professional counselor who has worked evaluating and diagnosing students with various learning disabilities including dyslexia for over 30 years. I was case manager for all initial and reevaluations for students K-12. This allowed me to assist in individualized programming and designing academic supports for success. Students suspected of having dyslexia or any learning disability have the highest incidence of any disability in the schools, including those with speech and language impairments.

English

English as it relates to communication in written form is an optimal skill, and one that requires practice and specialized instruction. I have the experience to support students as I have over 30 years of providing individualized interventions.

Grammar

I am a state and nationally certified school psychologist and licensed professional counselor. I've worked evaluating students with various disabilities for over 30 years. I have assisted in individualized programming, and designing academic supports for student success. Communication in written form is an optimal skill, and one that requires practice and specialized instruction. I read, write and edit educational documents on a daily basis. The information included in final copies of documents I submit must be 100 percent accurate; since parents, school staff, and others are looking to make sure legal requirements have been followed. Using appropriate grammar is paramount in assuring that the message you intend to send is received.

Reading

Reading and writing are essential skills and require practice and specialized instruction. I have the experience to support students as I have over 30 years of providing individualized interventions.

Special Needs

I worked for over 30 years identifying and designing individual plans for students with disabilities. I continue to be certified as a School Psychologist both nationally, and here in Michigan, and am also licensed as a Professional Counselor here in Michigan. I have 2 Master's degrees (an MSEd in Education, and an MA in Counseling Psychology).

Writing

I am a state and nationally certified school psychologist and licensed professional counselor. I've worked evaluating and diagnosing students with various disabilities for over 30 years. I've also assisted in individualized programming and designing academic supports for student success. Reading and writing are essential skills, and require practice and specialized instruction. I have the experience to support students as I have over 30 years of providing individualized interventions. I read, write, and edit information as a daily activity, and am able to help others make (or make) poorly written items more readable, succinct, and easier to comprehend.
