In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. That is why I've chosen English as my major while studying at Minsk State Linguistic University and at Moscow City Pedagogical University. I've been teaching English at different educational institutions in Belarus(basic, intermediate and advanced levels)for twenty years.
My primary teaching goal was always to develop good speaking skills of my students, because speaking more than one language in Europe (especially English) is like living more than one life. Traveling in a foreign country such as Poland or Finland suddenly became a lot more exciting for my former students in Belarus because they could engage in elegant small talk with a hotel receptionist, compliment their tour guide's dress, or just read the menu and order the food that they really wanted. Being able to ask for things instead of pointing at them, and being able to get directions from the locals instead of staring at a map, are some of the little things that always made my students feel confident.
Although I am focused mainly on the development of students' speaking skills, we will also practice English grammar and pronunciation during the tutorial sessions. Grammar is important because language is grammar, and the grammar of each language is unique. My students learn a set of grammar patterns and can produce an unlimited number of meaningful sentences. Using familiar grammar patterns the students start speaking right away, from the very first tutorial sessions, because speaking and pronunciation skills have to be practiced constantly to be learned.
I have been living in the USA for six years. I use this great opportunity to perfect my English. I now speak American-English and know much better what level of English people need depending on their occupation, age and education. While teaching English (American or British) as a second language, I teach the standard variety--one that can be understood all over the world.
I also want my students to keep in mind that people have, or are capable of, similar thoughts, feelings, and reactions, regardless of their native language. It is just as important to realize that each language uses a different system to organize this information. In order to learn English, then, we must learn its system:its regular patterns and exceptions to those patterns.

Many English speakers think that Russian alphabet is the most challenging aspect of picking up the language. But it's not as hard as they think, because Russian is a phonetic language, which means that for the most part one Russian letter corresponds to one sound. For example, the letter K is always pronounced like k. Compared to English pronunciation,, which often has more exceptions than rules, Russian rules of pronunciation are fairly clear and consistent.
One of the biggest differences between English and Russian is that English tends to know a fixed order of words, where as Russian enjoys a free order of words. In Russian, you can freely shift around the order of words in a sentence, because the Russian case system tells you exactly what role each word plays in the sentence. That is why it's crucial for the beginners to master the basics of Russian grammar. Grammar is important because Russian language is grammar, and the grammar of each language is unique. Russian grammar is the set of patterns that all speakers of the language use to communicate with each other.My primary goal is to help the students understand and learn those patterns and produce an unlimited number of meaningful sentences, while writing essays, compositions, making oral presentations on different topics, acting out conversations.
