Not all kids learn the same way and most classroom teachers don't have time to customize lesson plans for individual students. As a tutor, I will do this for you! In our first session, we will discover your learning style and I will customize all our lesson plans accordingly. You will probably have been in a classroom for several hours before we meet and the last thing you want to do is the same thing you have done all day. Learning can be fun! I will help you understand "why" it's important to learn by applying "what" you learn to real life situations.
A joy in my life has been being a Kid's Hope tutor/mentor for eight years. I absolutely love helping kids between kindergarten and 6th grade with their reading, math, and writing assignments. I have the privilege of being a mom to two daughters who are in college. Before I was a mom, I taught business classes for Davenport College and the Careerline Tech Center. I believe in life-long learning and my dream is that you wil, too. Let's do it together!
As a student, my strengths were in English and writing. Aquinas College's BSBA and Master of Management degree programs both included a strong writing curriculum. As a college professor, I had a reputation for giving a lot of writing assignments - and correcting every word!

I love kids. My passion is to teach the joy of learning!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I owned and operated a business called Career Link. We provided outplacement services for companies that were downsizing, offered career development services (personal/career assessment, resume writing, interviewing skills) for individuals changing jobs, and management recruiting services for area businesses.
