I love to learn and love to share my love of knowledge. I know how important a good education is for a successful future and know that every student can achieve their goals both academically and in life. However, I also know that sometimes succeeding academically can be difficult and require help. Every student learns differently and the key to success is finding a method that works for the student. I love to help find that method and see each student find their niche. Knowledge truly is power and I aim to give that power to each of my students, while simultaneously watching them succeed in improving their grades and test scores.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in Criminal Justice from Grand Valley State University in Michigan. Further, I have a Juris Doctorate with a concentration in litigation from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School. I graduated with honors from high school and earned a perfect ACT score as well as great SAT and GMAT scores. In addition, I achieved the highest grade in my class in advanced legal writing, which, though more technical than non-legal writing, still requires thorough knowledge of writing mechanics and language. Further, as a new attorney and February bar candidate, I know how to prepare for and take tests and know that hard work and dedication do pay off. Though I am new to Wyzant, I have tutored students and friends while in law school and received tutoring as well, so I know how the process works.
I specialize in English, including language, literature, and writing, test prep (ACT, SAT, and GMAT), and college counseling. As an attorney, communication is the cornerstone of my profession as well as excellent reading comprehension and research skills. Every test that I offer tutoring in is one that I have taken myself and done well in, so I am more than able to help your student. I have also applied and been accepted to multiple colleges and universities. I have written several admissions essays and know how to find a college or graduate program that fits. During that process, I have been accepted for numerous scholarships, so I know how to apply for and find different financial options.
Though I have always done well academically on my own, I have received tutoring in some of my weaker subjects before. That, as well as a rigorous academic schedule, has taught me that it can be hard to balance time, especially when given outside work. Therefore, I keep my lessons in line with your goals and current classwork, using your student's already assigned material to help teach the subject. However, if a student needs more work to understand the subject, I have no problem assigning other material to assist with comprehension. Whether that is other reading assignments, practice tests, or alternative methods of study, I'm here to help you and your student excel in whatever challenge faces them.
I love feedback! If you or your student are still struggling or need something changed, please let me know ASAP and I'll work with you. Of course, I also love to know when you are pleased with my work. I am flexible with my time and am willing to meet students at my apartment or at a location that is more convenient for them. I do have a 12-hour cancellation policy and ask that you respect my time as I respect yours, but if you do need to cancel a session, I am happy to arrange a makeup lesson at time convenient for both of us.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you and your student achieve your goals! I love to learn and love to share my love of knowledge. I know how important a good education is for a successful future and know that every student can achieve their goals both academically and in life. However, I also know that sometimes succeeding academically can be difficult and require help. Every student learns differently and the key to
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken 4 years of Latin studies, which included extensive learning of the Classical world. I know the myths and legends of the Classical Roman and Greek world as well as the history of the Roman Empire and the Greek city-states. I can help your student to understand the ancient myths and the histories and connect them to Classical events to help place them in context and understand just how and why history unfolded as it did.
