I am a former professor of literature and composition at Michigan State University. My best work with students happens when I can work with them individually on writing projects, understanding reading assignments or preparing work for submission in their classes. I have spent thousands of hours in the classroom teaching composition and thousands more in conference with students helping them improve their written work.

Building a rapport with a student helps me to understand what challenges they may be facing in English classes or other classes that require a writing component.
I have a Doctorate from Purdue University where I specialized in American Literature. Having worked with non-profits and other institutions editing documents for style and grammar, I have a great deal of experience spotting errors and helping authors of all ages improve their work.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
