I am a highly qualified certified special education teacher with over 20 years experience teaching preschool students through adults. My experience includes work in both special education and general education settings. I I have taught students with learning disabilities including dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, emotional impairments, and cognitive impairments. I have been the district representative for our district"s high school and middle school in IEP meetings. I have a strong background in assessing and understanding students needs, implementing goals and strategies to help them succeed, and monitoring progress in order to assess growth. I have an understanding of the IEP process and can help parents understand this process as well. In addition, I have been the College Board's coordinator for Students with Disabiities at my school and have been able to help student's receive the accommodations they need to be as successful as possible on their SAT Exam. My experience also includes teaching as a reading specialist at the elementary school level and as both a tutor and teacher for the Dyslexia Resource Center of Howell. At the high school level I have team taught and provided consultation and push in services in all academic areas. I have helped many of my students with study skills, test preparation, time management and organizational skills. I enjoy working with students at all grade levels. I am patient, yet hold high expectations of my students. I initially assess each student in order to pinpoint strengths and areas of need. By doing so, I am able to meet each student at his or her level and fill in learning gaps so that they can be successful. Continual formative assessments are provided with timely feedback to both the student and parents.

Knowledgeable, kind

She is working on spelling and spelling rules with my son. She is very kind and patient with him. I can tell he is enjoying his lessons with her, as I can hear him opening up in conversation with her.

Really great tutor

I have been meaning to write a review of our tutor, Ann H., for a while now. I chose Ann originally because of her experience working with special needs children. Ann has proven herself to be an awesome tutor and person. Ann did an initial assessment of my daughter's math needs and continues to assess my daughter's progress and needs on a regular basis. She is patient and kind and helps my daughter to stay on task - not always easy as my daughter can be very distractible and impulsive. She provides positive feedback as well as challenging my daughter to do her best - reviewing her own work to check for errors. She reviews basic math principles with my daughter on a regular basis. Ann is a really good tutor and seems to enjoy what she does. She is reliable, responsible, and honest. I was most impressed with her overall character when she charged less than her full amount for this most recent session due to my daughter's readiness to "be done" early. Ann did not have to do that but she did and that just solidified my already high opinion that I have of Ann. I plan on giving her name to my daughter's elementary school principal and staff. Thank you Ann!
