About Corrie

I have tutored elementary school and high school/GED students, and taught introductory college biology labs at EMU for three years. I also worked as an educator for the Denver Zoo, where I taught all K-12 levels, with a major part of my work being with middle school students. My students most often describe me as enthusiastic. I really do love helping others work through a question they're struggling with!

I have bachelor's degrees in both sociology (Calvin College) and biology (Metropolitan State University of Denver), as well as a master's degree in biology (ecology concentration) from Eastern Michigan University, and am happy to tutor in either major subject area, as well as in a number of other subjects.

My schedule right now is very flexible, and I can arrange for daytime, evening, or weekend tutoring meetings (online can also be arranged, if that's what works best for you). Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about what subjects I can provide tutoring help with!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I attended Christian schooling from preschool through high school, as well as a Christian college for my sociology undergraduate degree. This included regular Bible Study classes (yearly during elementary school, plus 2 in high school and 2 in college). I have also read the entirety of the Bible.

Biostatistics

I completed a statistics course focused on research applications as an undergraduate, and a graduate-level only course in statistics for biologists as part of my master's degree in biology. I received an A in both courses (4.0/4.0 scale). I also regularly used biostatistics in my thesis research.

Ecology

I have a B.S. in Biology and an M.S. in Biology (Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology concentration). I have field work experience in ecology and wildlife management. I have teaching experience (6 semesters) of undergraduate college biology courses.

Genetics

I have a bachelor's and master's degree in biology, and completed a Genetics course as part of my undergraduate study. I received an A in the course (4.0/4.0 scale). I have also taught introductory college biology (which includes basic Mendelian and non-Mendelian genetics) for 6 semesters.

I coached high school policy debate teams for 2 years, after 4 years (3 varsity) of participation in policy debate, and 2 years in extemporaneous speaking competition. I have received training in interpretive presentation techniques through an employer, and have completed speech and communication courses (A grade, 4.0/4.0 scale) during my undergraduate study.

Sociology

I have a B.A. in Sociology from Calvin College. I graduated from that program with an overall GPA of 3.66, and completed courses in the major such as: urban sociology, cultural anthropology, division and inequality in North American society, statistics, social research, and principles of sociological theory.
